Super Lig was one of the most exciting for many years, partly because of its unpredictability. For large parts of the campaign it really did seem as if Sivasspor would claim the title and break the monopoly of the big Istanbul clubs. If that had happened it would have been an earth shattering event for the Turkish game. In the end Besiktas came through to take the title, but the pain for Istanbul was still evident as Galatasaray and Fenerbahce both did appallingly.
